Dr Ramesh Sonti

Dr. Ramesh Venkata Sonti is a distinguished biotechnologist renowned for his contributions to plant-microbe interactions. He completed his BSc at Andhra University in 1980, followed by an MSc and MPhil in Plant Sciences from the University of Hyderabad. He earned his PhD in bacterial genetics from the University of Utah in 1990 and conducted postdoctoral research in plant genetics at MIT from 1991 to 1993. Since January 2023, he has been serving as the Director of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in New Delhi component and group leader -Plant microbe interactions. His current research focuses on plant-microbe intercations based on the model bacterial pathogen, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae.

- Food Science, Safety and Biotechnology: Innovations improving food processing, manufacturing, food safety, biotechnological applications of food industry quality, and food security.
